Great idea! Looks like amazon has Micro Hydroelectric Power Generators for $10-ish each. The power wouldn't be a lot for contemporary household needs, but if you could reduce your household's need, or focus the power to a bank for LEDs, smart phones, or weather radios, it might be useful. I will try this out.
