I tried to do Solar, but was unfortunate to sign up with a REALLY BAD ONE, Freedom Forever (FF), who sent the worst electrician on the planet to install a humongous set of wires into a tiny main electrical panel. I thought at contract signing that I was proud of doing the right thing in tapping into the sun and maybe that got in the way of conducting some due diligence. If I had, I would have seen the more than a few BAD reviews and learned in retrospect that the California State Licensing Board (CSLB) is a must stop before signing any services/product contract. We’re now in litigation, but what irks me the most is how FF has tainted me in installing solar panels. Like you, for my next home, I’ll be looking for solar panels that are installed, operational, and installed by a company clear of CSLB complaints or violations.
We’re looking at moving from South TX to NorCal (Sonoma or Mendocino Counties), and it’s remarkable the number of homes with solar panels, EV chargers, &/or back-up generators. We’re on the coast (rebuilt after Harvey), and we have all the windstorm ins requirements, including extra tie downs on the roof & foundation, impact windows & a NG back up generator (which we used during the TX IceMegaddon of Feb 2021). Fortunately, we’re high enough to not have to raise our house & we have FEMA flood insurance, at the lower X zone rate. Our realtor concurred with the benefits to our listing & (hopefully) sales price.
